What are your main areas of work?
As Head of Accounting and Reporting, I am responsible for the financial closings -monthly quarterly, annually -, plus audits and the payroll. I head a team of seven in the Finance Department which employs a total of 20+ persons.

There are many nationalities in your department. What is it like to work in a multicultural environment?
There are six nationalities in my department: Qatari, Danish, Malaysian, Filipino, Indian and Egyptian. I really enjoy the diversity. This kind of environment influences attitude. You become more tolerant and patient, make really good friends, and you learn about different cultures.

A strong team spirit is fostered because of the many different nationalities,  and everyone is always ready to give each other a helping hand.

What is it like living and working in Qatar?
I like Qatar. It is a safe and family-friendly country. My husband and two sons also like it here, though it is a bit hot during the summer. People are so friendly that it is easy to feel like we are in a home away from home.

How do you maintain your work-life balance?
Maersk Oil takes excellent care of its employees and is concerned about their work-life balance. We work eight hours a day, five days a week and we only work extra hours when the situation makes it necessary.

Our management is extremely competent. This means that we have a very professional approach to our work and that we keep our deadlines – and this also helps us maintain our work-life balance.

I relax with a book in my spare time. I am a passionate reader of fiction, especially the authors Danielle Steel, Sidney Sheldon and John Grisham. I have read most of Grisham’s books - The Firm is his best, in my opinion.

You have been with Maersk Oil Qatar for seven years. Are you planning to stay indefinitely?
Yes.  It is very good for me professionally, and there are still plenty of interesting challenges at Maersk Oil Qatar. The Management is very good at ensuring that employees have good opportunities for continual development. My career has enabled me to develop as a person, and I enjoy coming to the office every day.
