Maersk Oil temporarily shuts down Tyra East
Bookmark and Share

Maersk Oil has stopped the export of gas from the Tyra East export centre, along with direct Tyra East gas production, as a precautionary measure. This is to ensure that the integrity of the facility is not compromised by the possible failure of a boat fender which was shown to have developed cracks in the welds of a clamp holding it to the platform jacket.

The major concern is the chance that the fender, if it breaks free, collides with and damages the gas export line.

The problem was identified during a planned inspection on the jacket. Work is on-going to reinforce the fender’s connection to the platform jacket, after which a permanent solution will be found. Equipment is being manufactured to help reinforce the connection and will be sent out to the facilities along with qualified personnel to install it.

It is hoped that the fender will be secured over the weekend, allowing for production to be re-started.

Notes:

Tyra East is the main gas export hub to Denmark, accounting for 90 percent of the DUC gas production.

Export of gas via Tyra West continues at approx 48 mmscf/d, or 10 percent of normal production. This gas is routed via another un-affected pipeline to Holland.

The DEA has been notified by Maersk Oil.
