Maersk Oil has been active in Angola since 2005

In June 2005 Maersk Oil acquired a 50% interest in the Production Sharing Agreement for Block 16 some 100 kilometers offshore Angola. Water depth in the block is from 200 meters to 1500 meters. Maersk Oil and its partners: Devon (15%) Odebrecht (15%) and Sonangol (20%), will carry out an agreed exploration work programme in the area.

In November 2006 Maersk Oil entered into a Production Sharing Agreement for offshore blocks 8 and 23 with an interest of 50% together with Svenska Petroleum (30%) and Sonangol (20%). Water depth in block 8 is up to 500 meters and in block 23 up to 1,500 meters. The initial exploration programme comprises seismic acquisition and drilling of one well.
