In 2002, through Brazil Round 4, Maersk Oil obtained a licence for Block BM-S-29. The Block covers 1,046 square kilometers, situated approximately 130 kilometers off the coast immediately south of São Paulo. Maersk Oil (50%) is licensee and operator.
In 2007 Maersk Oil was awarded blocks C-M-560 and C-M-591 in the South Campos basin as operator (50% interest) together with OGX (50% interest) in the ninth exploration licence round. The blocks cover an area of approximately 360 square kilometers, situated some 100 kilometers southeast off the coast of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of 100 - 150 meters. The commitment comprises acquisition of 3D seismic data and drilling of two exploration wells. Further, in the ninth round, Maersk Oil was awarded blocks S-M-791 and S-M-792 in the South Santos basin (30% interest) together with Petrobras (Operator, 40% interest) and CVRD (30% interest). The blocks cover an area of approximately 360 square kilometers, situated some 150 kilometers southeast off the coast of São Paulo at a water depth of 100 - 150 meters. The commitment comprises acquisition of 3D seismic data and drilling of one exploration well in each block.
