Exploration activities in Brazil

In 2002, through Brazil Round 4, Maersk Oil obtained a licence for Block BM-S-29. The Block covers 458 square kilometers, located approximately 130 kilometers off the coast immediately south of São Paulo. Maersk Oil (35%) is licensee and operator with OGX holding the remaining 65%.

In 2007 Maersk Oil was awarded blocks BM-C-37 and BM-C-38 in the South Campos basin as operator (50% interest) together with OGX (50% interest) in the ninth exploration licence round. The blocks cover an area of approximately 360 square kilometers, situated some 100 kilometers southeast off the coast of Rio de Janeiro at water depths of 100 - 150 meters. The commitment comprises acquisition of 3D seismic data and drilling of two exploration wells.

Further, in the ninth round, Maersk Oil was awarded blocks BM-S-66 and BM-S-67 in the South Santos basin (30% interest) together with Petrobras (Operator, 40% interest) and CVRD (30% interest). The blocks cover an area of approximately 360 square kilometers, situated some 150 kilometers southeast off the coast of São Paulo at water depths of 100 - 150 meters. The commitment comprises acquisition of 3D seismic data and drilling of one exploration well in each block.
