Natural gas in Denmark

In 1979, the first agreements for the supply of natural gas to Denmark were entered into.  The agreements were for the delivery of a total of 55 billion cubic metres over 25 years, commencing in 1984, based on the Tyra gas-condensate field.

With further gas sales agreements in 1990 and 1993, it was agreed to increase the supply to a yearly total of up to 7.5 billion cubic metres of gas.

Construction of a new gas pipeline with a connection to the European continent was completed in 2004. Immediately upon completion, the DUC partners started the sale of additional gas to customers in Den Helder, the Netherlands, from the DUC fields in the North Sea through the pipeline.
