Maersk Oil has been active in the UK since 1992.
In 2005 Maersk Oil acquired interests in ten producing fields. Maersk Oil is operating five of these and has currently a share of the production of approximately 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. In addition, a number of smaller oil and gas discoveries as well as an exploration portfolio were acquired.
In September 2005 Maersk Oil was awarded five new offshore licences in the 23rd UK bidding round. Two of the licences are located in the central North Sea and three on the Atlantic margin west of the Shetlands. Maersk Oil is operator in four of the licences.
In February 2007 Maersk Oil was awarded eight new exploration licences in the central North Sea and the West Shetlands. Maersk Oil holds operatorship in seven of the new licences.
Including previous acquisitions and awards, Maersk Oil now participates with varying interests in more than 70 exploration licences in the UK. In approximately half of the licences Maersk Oil is the operator.
